In Person Child Therapy in Los Angeles

At Innovative Group Psychotherapy (IGP), we understand that children don’t always have the words to describe their internal world. While adults use talk therapy, children use play—it is their natural language and their primary way of processing experiences. Our approach is designed to meet children exactly where they are, providing a safe, imaginative space where they can heal, grow, and develop the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Our Integrative Modalities

Our Studio City practice provides a sanctuary where your child’s natural language—play—is the primary vehicle for healing. We don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach. Our clinicians blend evidence-based practices with creative expression to keep children engaged and motivated.

Common Reasons Families Come to Us for Support

Childhood is a time of rapid growth, but it can also be a time of significant stress. We work with children and families facing a variety of presenting problems, including:

  • Anxiety & Phobias: Persistent worrying, separation anxiety, or “perfectionism”

  • Behavioral Challenges: Difficulty following directions, outbursts, or aggression.

  • Neurodivergence Support: Navigating the world as an Autistic child or a child with ADHD.

  • Trauma & Life Transitions: Processing divorce, loss, moving, or stressful life events.

  • Social Difficulties: Trouble making friends, bullying, or social withdrawal.

  • Mood Struggles: Persistent sadness, irritability, or low self-esteem.

Our Integrative Modalities

  • Play Therapy: This is the foundation of our work. Through structured and unstructured play, children "play out" their anxieties and conflicts, allowing the therapist to help them find new solutions in a non-threatening way.

  • EMDR (Incorporating Play & Sand Tray): Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful tool for processing trauma and distressing memories. For children, we integrate Sand Tray therapy and storytelling to make the process gentle and developmentally appropriate.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): For older children, we use modified CBT to help them identify the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and actions, replacing "bully thoughts" with more helpful ones.

  • Expressive Arts: We use drawing, painting, music, and movement to help children express complex emotions that are too big for words.

  • Mindfulness & Regulation: Teaching children "superpowers" for their nervous system, such as deep breathing and sensory grounding, to help them manage big feelings.
