Dr. Brette Genzel-Derman is a clinical psychologist, EMDR-certified trauma specialist, and founder of Innovative Group Psychotherapy (IGP), where she integrates her extensive expertise in psychological assessment, individual therapy, and creative arts–based interventions to support children, teens, and adults in meaningful healing. With a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the California School of Professional Psychology and a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from Syracuse University, Dr. Genzel-Derman brings over two decades of clinical experience, including 20+ years at the Child and Family Guidance Center, where she coordinated the Assessment of Sexual Knowledge program and developed the Therapeutic Creative Arts Program. Her foundation in psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches enables her to help clients access emotions and experiences that may be difficult to articulate, while her EMDR training allows her to guide individuals in processing and healing from trauma. Dr. Genzel-Derman’s unique therapeutic style blends evidence-based practices with creative expression through music and the arts—a passion that led her to develop a pioneering group therapy model that pairs clinical treatment with mentorship from professional artists. This strengths-based, innovative approach reflects her core belief that people heal and grow most powerfully when their inner worlds are understood, their voices are amplified, and their creativity is embraced.
