Teen Culture
As teens spend more time on screens, their socialization skills suffer, and they lack the capacity to appropriately engage in conversations that create the intimacy needed for meaningful relationships. Research from the American Psychiatric Association has suggested a link between spending extended time on social media and experiencing negative mental health outcomes such as low self esteem, depression, and social anxiety. Today's teens need increased face-to-face interactions. Group therapy, such as Acoustic Youth, provides the opportunity for teens to learn and practice socialization skills.
Innovative Group Therapy increases social emotional intelligence by helping teens:
develop adaptive coping skills
utilize effective problem solving strategies
express their emotions
display empathy
increase social awareness
identify triggers to stress
create meaningful connections
